The Adi Kailash Yatra (also known as Chhota Kailash) is one of the most spiritually uplifting and scenic journeys in the Indian Himalayas.
Situated near the Indo-Tibet border in Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand, Adi Kailash stands at an altitude of around 6,191 meters (20,310 ft) and resembles the sacred Mount Kailash in Tibet.
This holy expedition from Kathgodam to Kathgodam takes travelers through the mesmerizing beauty of the Kumaon Himalayas, crossing through ancient villages, crystal-clear rivers, dense forests, and high mountain passes.
It’s not just a trek — it’s a soulful experience that combines faith, nature, and adventure.
Adi Kailash is believed to be one of the abodes of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Nearby lies Parvati Sarovar, a serene high-altitude lake symbolizing purity and peace. Devotees believe that a glimpse of Adi Kailash equals darshan of the original Mount Kailash in Tibet.
Along this route, travelers also visit the sacred Om Parvat, where the natural snow formation on the mountain perfectly depicts the symbol “ (Om)”.
Drive through scenic towns like Almora, Pithoragarh, and Narayan Ashram. Enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Kumaon hills. Overnight stay in Dharchula — the gateway to Aadi Kailash
After obtaining the Inner Line Permit, drive towards Gunji, passing through Budhi and Chialekh. The route runs alongside the Kali River, offering thrilling Himalayan views.
A short drive or trek to Nabhi, a beautiful high-altitude village known for its warm hospitality and traditional Kumaoni culture. Rest and acclimatize.
Drive or trek to Nabhidhang, where you witness the divine Om Parvat. The snow on the mountain naturally forms the symbol of “ॐ”, considered highly sacred in Hinduism. Overnight stay near Nabhidhang.
Proceed to Jolingkong, the base of Adi Kailash Mountain. Visit the peaceful Parvati Sarovar and Gauri Kund. Spend time meditating and soaking in the spiritual vibrations of the holy land. Overnight stay at Jolingkong.
Return journey to Gunji, retracing the scenic route and enjoying views of the Himalayan peaks.
